It is rare that a celebrity's death really affects me. Today, the death of David Bowie affected me so much deeper than I thought possible. In my 20s a friend took me to see him in Auburn Hills and it was one of the most wonderful memories I have.
Tonight my children and I watch Labyrinth and I will keep his memory alive by sharing his art with them.

It's December
I have started three different posts. None of them were post worthy... and two of them were never successfully edited.
One was about some Christmassy type things, another was an update, and a third as about the mess I made making raspberry muffins. The raspberry muffin post caused me such frustration, that I abandoned it so terribly unedited that I was actually personally frustrated with my ability to write that I stopped attempting to blog. The raspberry muffins themselves went largely uneaten and were thrown out today, covered in furry mould, abandoned much like my ego.
I have generally stopped coming on blogger, as the blogs that I follow have all been discontinued and most of the blogs these days are product advertisements that I'm not interested in. I used to love the depth of the concept of blogging - ordinary people telling us about their little corner of the world, and amateur writers practicing their craft - but blogging is no longer for writers, it is for businesses, large and small. The art in it is gone, and therefore my interest in the art is gone. I joined blogging because I love stories and I love telling stories and reading stories - so much so that I went to University to study storytelling - and I became and English teacher to teach storytelling.
I have never been a very good storyteller myself, but all of my favorite storytelling blogs have been abandoned, and I've had to find my storytelling elsewhere - i.e. Netflix. I've tried finding new storytelling blogs to follow, but 99% of blogs these days are about product reviews, Pinterest-type DIY stuff, and winning stuff. I have enough stuff.... speaking of that... it is almost Christmas!
I made an honest effort to scale back on my Christmas shopping this year, but I was not overly successful. I still feel like there is too much "stuff" even though I specifically steered myself away from the "stuff" trap. I didn't buy anything from the Walmart toy aisles and I didn't even enter a Toys R Us this year. Most of my online shopping was for things that the kids specifically asked for - minus a short lived obsession with Zulilly that was quickly squashed by the reality of the cost of online shopping and the poor Canadian dollar.
In all honestly, this post is just as crappy as the three incomplete posts. I'm finding my voice is angry, and bitter, along with my mood and general feelings about life, and I don't want more bitterness in the world, so I may not post again for some time.

Christmas Post
Here we are in November. I haven't posted as much about Christmas as I usually do. I've had the kind of year where I started out in a better place where I am ending. Things looked a lot more positive during the holidays last year. There has been a significant amount of isolation and bitterness in 2015. I feel detached from the communities that I had painstakingly built over the years and I feel socially stunned.
Nothing is particularly horrible, just that promise of a delicious meal that leaves a bad taste of disappointment and a significant amount of heartburn afterwards.
I finished my own Christmas shopping this past week. D and L have both been taken out to finish theirs and G still needs to go. I'd like to pop by the pet store sometime and get treats for the animals and perhaps fill the house with more booze for the parties that we will be hosting, but other than that, I'm done. I went super low key this year. The kids made short lists, and I didn't overdo it this year, like I usually do. I've ordered a few things that haven't come, yet, but there is still time.
The lights went up today, they won't be turned on for a couple more weeks, but I thought I had better take advantage of the unseasonable warmth.
I bought myself winter tires this year as a birthday/Christmas present for myself. Last winter I had far too many terrifying drives home in the snow in the Honda, so I decided that I was going practical and getting myself something that will hopefully make my rural commute slightly less terrifying in the winter. You are welcome for the warmest winter in history.

I Got a Rock (An October Post)
September was insanely busy this year and not in a good way.
When I realized it was October first this past week, and I realized the amazing amount of drama I've already been involved in in less than six weeks, I needed to sit down and think. I knew September would be busy, but I didn't realize how all encompassingly horribly busy it would actually turn out to be.
The kids *seem* to like school and I have yet to hear otherwise.
I'm stuck at the same job I loathed last year, and despite my greatest attempts to change that particular stressor, nothing has changed.
I had an MRI two weeks ago and despite being told I'd hear within a couple of days, it has been over a week and I've heard nothing.
I've had something to do or somewhere to go, or some reason to clean my house every weekend since school started.
But, in good news, I actually finished all of the kid's Halloween costumes this afternoon. I didn't think it was going to happen, but it did. Now I just have to find my Halloween decorations, decorate, and attempt to finish my own costume.
I've been on a binge of incredibly unhealthy habits all of September. I'm not wearing my stress well, which is pretty normal for me. I have attempted on several occasions to break that habit, but then something else comes along and kicks the football out from under me and I easily give up.
I feel an awful lot like Charlie Brown in a constant whining about life whirlwind where I leave rooms, my head hung in shame, the same melody following me around. Plus everyone sounds like a muted trumpet and I don't feel like reading War and Peace.
Which reminds me that the new movie is coming out, or has come out, or something... something else I'll have to schedule in...
